2020 Democratic Presidential Nominee Weekly Power Rankings - January 29th, 2020
This list looks at who I believe currently has the best chance of winning the 2020 Democratic Party nomination for President. Only notable individuals who have announced they are running are included. I am not a political expert, so don’t take this too seriously. Feel free to provide feedback.
Notes for This Week:
- Next week are the Iowa caucuses, the first voting of the primary season. Whoever does well there will get a boost, though it doesn't guarantee them the nomination.
- The Trump Impeachment Trial continues this week, so Senators Sanders, Warren, Klobuchar, and Bennet are still off the campaign trail.
- There's not a lot of big primary news recently, despite the lead-up to the first voting. The polling is getting tighter, but everyone is pretty much staying in their spots. With a field as open as this, there has been some speculation that some campaigns may try to form alliances in Iowa in order to reach the 15% "viability" threshold (read Iowa caucuses work here).
1. Joe Biden
Previous Ranking: 1 (-)Credentials: Vice President of the United States (2009–2017); U.S. Senator from Delaware (1973–2009)
Notes: Biden has dipped a bit in recent national polls, but he's starting to perform stronger in early state polls.

Previous Ranking: 2 (-)Credentials: U.S. Senator from Vermont (2007–Current); U.S. Representative from Vermont (1991–2007); Mayor of Burlington, Vermont (1981–1989)
Notes: Sanders is probably closer to Biden than ever this primary season, and it comes at just the right time. If can get a victory in Iowa and New Hampshire, expect some other states to start swinging his way.
